You are all part of the RNLI aren't you? No. We are a totally independent lifeboat. We work closely with the RNLI but receive no funding from them.
How much are you paid? Nothing. All members of Sidmouth Lifeboat are volunteers. All the money raised is used to equip the boat and crew.
How much does it cost to run the boat? Run at full speed the engines will use 15 gallons an hour between them. This means that the fuel alone can cost £75.00 per hour!
Is the boat only operational during the day? No. The boat is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Can I visit the boathouse and see the boat? Yes. Visitors are always welcome. The boat house is open from 10am til 4:00pm every day, and a member of the support crew will be happy to answer any questions for you.
