In the second callout for the day, Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat was tasked to join a multi-agency search following reports of a swimmer seen heading beyond the Rock Islands who had not been witnessed returning to shore.

Our volunteer crew joined Exmouth RNLI, HM Coastguard Rescue Helicopter and Beer Coastguard Rescue Team in carrying out an extensive search of the area.

After a thorough search, no casualty was located and all units were stood down at approximately 01:00 on 27 June 2026.

Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat was recovered and back on service by around 01:30.

We would like to thank all the emergency services involved for their professionalism and teamwork throughout the incident.
