Sidmouth Lifeboat was paged by Solent Coastguard to assist with a reported broken down vessel. On arrival the crew had managed to resolve the engine issue..

On returning, the crew were asked to assist a 4×4 which had become stuck on Port Royal beach while attempting to recover a small boat. Sidmouth Lifeboat’s winch tractor was used to winch it off of the shingle

04-19 12/07/19 15:42 Assist Salcombe Mouth Sidmouth 2 launched to 3 kayakers to the east of Sidmouth apparently not making headway against the offshore wind, with one reported capsized and in the water. On arrival the group, had just made shore at Salcombe Mouth.  After some discussion with the crew they confirmed that they wanted to to make their own way back to Sidmouth, remaining close to shore out of the wind.
03-19 25/06/19 10:30 Assist Sidmouth Lifeboat paged by Solent Coastguard to support Police and Coastguard Cliff Rescue Teams on an incident on cliffs to the east of the town.
02-19 19/04/19 10:46 Assist Axmouth Lifeboat launched to a report of a capsized vessel off  Seaton / Axmouth, 2 persons in the water.
On scene within 10 minutes, 1 casualty safely ashore, the second still in the water, located by the Lifeboat and brought safely aboard.Lyme Lifeboat also tasked, then arrived and dealt with the capsized vessel itself. Both casualties safely ashore with the Coastguard teams.
01-19 22/02/19 12:49 Search Sidmouth Lifeboat crew paged to assist in the search for a missing person for whom the police had serious concern.  Police, Exmouth Inshore Lifeboat, Beer Coastguard and Exmouth Coastgaurd also involved. Due to the very close inshore nature of the search, and the location, Sidmouth 2 was launched.  All units carried out a thorough search of the area in question.  Nothing found.

15-18 10/10/2018 17:55 Assist Sidmouth Beach Sidmouth Lifeboat was paged by Solent Coastguard to assist the police with an incident on the cliffs near Sidmouth. The police were able to deal with the incident and our assistance was not required.
14-18 12/08/2018 21:50 Rescue Sidmouth Beach Sidmouth Lifeboat was paged by Solent Coastguard alongside Beer Coastguard to reports a person had entered the water on Sidmouth seafront. The Lifeboat promptly made its way to the launch site where it was met by a police officer who confirmed that the person had exited the water and was now at their home address accompanied by police officers. The Lifeboat and Beer Coastguard officers remained at an state of operational readiness until this had been confirmed by Solent Coastguard and we were asked to stand down.
13-18 02/08/2018 12:30 Assist Sidmouth Beach Sidmouth Lifeboat was paged following a call from the public about a person seen struggling on a paddle board, the person was identified as being accompanied by a qualified instructor and in no distress so the Lifeboat did not launch.
12-18 28/07/2018 14:25 Search Ladram Bay Sidmouth Lifeboat was paged at the request of Beer Coastguard to complete a close inshore search between Big Picket rock and Ladram Bay. Nothing was found and he Lifeboat was stood down and returned to station. Beer Coastguard had been on scene as a member of the public had called the Coastguard raising concerns that they had seen someone who may have been cut off by the tide before they were able to get to Ladram Bay.
11-18 27/07/2018 10:30 Search Sidmouth Beach Sidmouth lifeboat was launched to complete a close inshore search from Hook Ebb (Approx 1.5 miles East of Sidmouth) to Big Picket Rock (1 mile West of Sidmouth) following a member of the public discovering a pile of clothes on the beach this morning. Beer Coastguard team completed a really thorough search alongside the Lifeboat to ensure that no persons were in the water or on the surrounding coastline and the Lifeboat was stood down.
10-18 24/07/2018 15:57 Rescue Sidmouth Beach Sidmouth Lifeboat crew worked alongside Beer Coastguard team, Ambulance crews and Devon Air Ambulance on a callout, this incident unfortunately involved a fatality.
09-18 03/07/2018 22:00 Search Sidmouth Beach Sidmouth lifeboat was tasked to search for what appeared to be a person seen struggling on a board and drifting from Jacobs ladder towards Big Picket rock alongside Beer Coastguard team. The first informant had watched in the fading light and accurately described the location which enabled the lifeboat to locate the incident. Once the lifeboat was on scene they were able to identify that this was a kayak paddling alongside a swimmer in the water undertaking swimming training, they were spoken to and were comfortable in the water and well equipped. This was a false alarm with good intent and the first informant did exactly the right thing and called 999.
08-18 14/06/2018 17:30 Assist Otterton Ledge Sidmouth Lifeboat was paged by Solent Coastguard to a report of a Jack Russell having gone over the clifftop at Otterton Ledge, near Budleigh Salterton. The Lifeboat was launched within 8 minutes of being paged, with Coastguard Cliff Rescue Teams also in attendance. The dog was recovered from the rocks at the base of the cliff by the Lifeboat crew however it sadly did not survive the fall.
07-18 03/06/2018 19:30 Search Sidmouth Sidmouth lifeboat were paged by Solent Coastguard to investigate an object spotted in the water, believed to be a possible upturned kayak. The crew launched to investigate and were able to identify the object as a large log, a search of the area was completed and nothing else was found so the crew were stood down.
06-18 31/05/2018 15:30 Search Budleigh Salterton Whilst returning from the previous callout the crew were tasked to assist in a search for a missing person and did so along the coastline from Orcombe point to Budleigh Salterton. Nothing was found and the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station whilst land based searches continue. Shortly after returning to Station the missing person was located by Police.
05-18 31/05/2018 11:30 Search Lyme Bay Sidmouth lifeboat was tasked by Solent Coastguard to a sailing vessel which had broken down and was drifting. The position of the sailing vessel was unclear as due to the foggy conditions the person on board was unaware of their location and had been at sea for two days, the lifeboat searched from Beer Head to Exmouth with nothing found until the Coastguard released a Pan-Pan radio message requesting all vessels to assist with locating the vessel and the sailing vessel was quickly spotted by another boat who gave the accurate location as Dawlish Warren. Sidmouth Lifeboat were quickly able to get to the scene and assess the vessel and person on board before towing it to the mouth of the river Exe to hand over to the Exmouth Lifeboat crew to take the vessel into a berth.
04-18 05/05/2018 17:30 Assist Sidmouth Beach The Lifeboat crew were tasked to assist with the removal of a small plane which had made an emergency landing on Sidmouth Beach near Jacob’s ladder. See the Sidmouth Herald’s write up here.
03-18 25/02/2018 14:05 Search Sidmouth Beach Sidmouth lifeboat was tasked alongside Beer Coastguard teams to two persons detached from their kayaks in the water off Jacobs Ladder beach, the Lifeboat launched and was quickly able to ascertain that these were not kayaks but large pieces of driftwood. The lifeboat then undertook a thorough search of the area to ensure that no persons were in the water and with nothing found were stood down by Solent Coastguard.
02-18 13/02/2018 17:35 Search Sidmouth Sidmouth lifeboat was paged shortly before our routine training evening by Solent Coastguard and were on the water in a matter of minutes. The lifeboat was tasked to investigate what had been reported as a drifting boat approximately 1 mile South East of Sidmouth. Upon arrival on scene the crew identified the object which was a large buoy which had come adrift and were able to get it aboard the lifeboat and recover it to Sidmouth lifeboat station before continuing with routine training.
01-18 17/01/2018 15:30 Rescue Seaton Beach Our first callout of 2018 saw Sidmouth Lifeboat Crew paged by Solent Coastguard to a person in difficulty in the water off Seaton beach. Lyme Regis Lifeboat and Beer Coastguard also tasked, however as the Lifeboat was leaving the boathouse they were stood down by Solent Coastguard as the person had made it ashore and they were safe and well.

20/17 25/10/17 19:05 Search Sidmouth Beach Sidmouth Lifeboat Crew were paged by Solent Coastguard to assist the police and Coastguard with a suspected missing person. The crew were tasked to perform close inshore search from big picket rock to the Salcombe mouth area providing an extensive search of the sea and shoreline while the coastguard land teams and police searched on land. The Lifeboat Crew used flares, searchlights and night sights to search the area.
The person in question was later found safe and well and the Lifeboat was stood down shortly after 21.00.

18/17 09/09/17 13:43 Assist Chiselbury Bay Sidmouth Lifeboat tasked to a female in the water at the foot of a cliff 1 mile West of Ladram Bay.
The female had been found by 2 anglers and the lifeboat crew, alongside Beer and Exmouth coastguard teams, assisted police with the recovery operation.
17/17 05/09/17 18:25 Assist Sidmouth Whilst preparing for routine training the Sidmouth Lifeboat crew saw a paddle boarder who had been pushed offshore by a deceptively strong wind. The crew prepared Sidmouth 2 for launch and maintained a visual onto the paddle boarder. The paddle boarder was able to use a break in the wind to get within the lee of the shore and with the help of a sea swimmer was able to recover to the beach where the lifeboat crew assisted them up the beach and the Sidmouth 2 Lifeboat was not required.
16/17 02/09/17 10:20 Assist Littlecombe Shute Whilst stationed in town for the start of the annual Sidmouth Lifeboat Flag Day the boat was tasked to a male casualty who had broken his leg half way down the cliff path at Littlecombe Shute. The lifeboat put crew ashore and used Entonox, Splints and a stretcher and worked alongside the Beer Coastguard team to get the casualty to shore down the very challenging coastal path and used the Lifeboat to transfer the casualty back to Sidmouth for transfer to hospital via Ambulance. Once again we wish the casualty well.
15/17 01/09/17 18:47 Assist Exmouth Lifeboat tasked urgently whilst leaving Exmouth to a child and adult in trouble in the water. The child was accounted for but adult reportedly in cardiac arrest and on a boat receiving CPR. Situation was unclear and adult was confirmed by the lifeboat tonne ashore and with the air ambulance in attendance. We wish the casualties well.
14/17 01/09/17 17:27 Assist Brandy Head Lifeboat tasked to a boat in difficulty off of Brandy Head with 2 adults and 2 children aboard. Boat towed to Starcross safely all persons safe and well. Lifeboat was returning to station when urgently retasked to callout 15.
13/17 25/08/17 19:36 Search Sidmouth Sidmouth Lifeboat had just returned from providing safety cover for the RAF red arrows display when they were tasked to search for a potential missing swimmer directly off in front of the Sidmouth Lifeboat station around 150 metres from shore. A member of public had come into the Lifeboat station and called Solent Coastguard as he felt he had seen a swimmer go out but not return. The crew were paged and alongside Beer Coastguard teams completed a thorough search of the area. Nothing was found and the Lifeboat was stood down, no persons at this time have been reported missing.
12/17 19/08/17 18:14 Assist Budleigh Salterton Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked by Solent Coastguard to search for a boat with engine failure believed to be in the Budleigh Salterton area. Exmouth ILB was also tasked to assist with the search. Both lifeboats worked brilliantly together with Exmouth ILB finding the boat 2 miles East-South-East of Otterton Ledge, it was an 18ft Speed boat with 4 persons on board and required towing into a safe haven. Exmouth was chosen as the most appropriate destination and Sidmouth Lifeboat took them on a stern tow to Exmouth and once inside the estuary Exmouth ILB took on the tow to moor up the vessel whilst Sidmouth Lifeboat took the 4 persons, who were all well but glad to be home, to the slipway for recovery. An excellent example of the two stations working together seamlessly and a brilliant effort from both the independent and RNLI crews.
11/17 15/08/17 10:07 Assist Littlecombe Shute Lifeboat tasked to a casualty at Littlecombe Shute with a suspected broken leg. The Lifeboat was quickly on scene and our paramedic dropped ashore to assess a suspected broken tibia and fibula, along with Beer coastguard rescue team members. Due to the inaccessible location with shallow water and rocks, Sidmouth 2 was then also launched in case (with much shallower draft) assistance was required. In the event, the helm of the larger boat was unable to get it to the shore at the casualty location. The main Sidmouth Lifeboat was able to navigate to place the bow on the beach enabling a safe transfer of the casualty thanks to the Beer Coastguard teams. Casualty was splinted, given Entonox and put on a scoop before being recovered to the boat and then back to Sidmouth boathouse for transfer to the land ambulance crews. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.

06/17 27/07/17 17:30 Search Budleigh Salterton Solent Coastguard tasked Sidmouth Lifeboat to a report of three paddle boarders who had disappeared from view heading from Budleigh Salterton towards Ladram Bay. The paddle boarders were last seen rounding Otterton ledge and the first informant had not seen them for some time. Solent Coastguard paged Sidmouth Lifeboat to complete a search between Otterton ledge and Ladram Bay. As the lifeboat was due to launch, Solent Coastguard and Sidmouth Lifeboat were informed that three paddle boarders were safe and well as they had been contacted via phone. Sidmouth Lifeboat agreed with Solent Coastguard to continue to launch in case they were not boarders in question. The search of the area was completed and three paddle boarders located by the lifeboat. The lifeboat contacted the paddle boarders and ensured that they were safe and well and that they were indeed the only three on the water at that time. Once it was established that this was the case the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station.
05/17 29/04/17 11:37 Assist Branscombe Solent Coastguard tasked Sidmouth Lifeboat to reports of a paraglider that had crashed off the cliffs between Branscombe and Beer Head, tasked to search the area. ​On route the lifeboat was stood down as the paraglider was found on land injured and taken straight to hospital.
04/17 11/03/17 10:45 Assist Salcombe Mouth Sidmouth 2 launched to investigate and then attempt to recover a sailing dingy washed ashore towards Salcombe mouth. Boat was found to be empty. May have come from Lympstone – Coastguard investigating. Lifeboat crew removed the mast to aid stability and managed to tow the badly damaged vessel back to Sidmouth where it was hauled ashore with the help of Beer and Sidmouth Coastguard teams.
03/17 18/02/17 14:03 Search Sidmouth Beach Sidmouth Lifeboat launched following a report of a swimmer in the water 50m off of seafront who had disappeared from sight. Extensive search carried out with nothing found. A swimmer was confirmed to have exited the water at approx 13:50 who may have been the one in question. Lifeboat crew confident that had anyone been on the water surface during the search they would have been found. Lifeboat stood down by Solent Coastguard.
02/17 08/02/17 09:30 Search Sidmouth Beach Sidmouth Lifeboat launched again to search for the same person as the night before, again with Police dog units, helicopter and ground units. The Police dive team from Plymouth and Specialist Search units were also involved, working alongside the Beer and Sidmouth Coastguard teams to thoroughly search the area between Weston Mouth and Ladram bay. The Lifeboat crew launched both boats to ensure that a full and complete search was completed and nothing was found. Both boats stood down at 12:40. 01/17 07/02/17 23:05 Search Sidmouth Beach Search for a high risk missing person off Sidmouth Beach who was believed to have entered the water. The search was coordinated alongside Police Helicopters, Dog units and officers as well as both Beer and Sidmouth Coastguard teams. The search was done thoroughly from Chapmans Rocks to Big Picket rock both in the sea and on the land. The Lifeboat was stood down after thoroughly searching the area at 01:30 and returned to station for a debrief with the Police.

01-16 14/02/2016 13:20 Assist Budleigh Beach Sidmouth Lifeboat launched for it’s first callout of the year to a Dog, Monty, who had fallen from the cliff top at Danger Point. Monty was located, fit and well and was assisted by a crew member across the river with assistance from the coastguard team who set up a swimming line. Monty was reunited with his owner and the Lifeboat returned to station.
02-16 19/05/2016 14:40 Assist Sidmouth Sidmouth Lifeboat launched after being paged by HM Coastguard following reports of a kite surfer who had been struggling for some time 1/4 mile off of Sidmouth. Sidmouth 2 was launched and attended the kite surfer who was determined ok and determined to make it to shore unaided. Sidmouth 2 stood by until the kite surfer had eventually recovered.
03-16 18/06/2016 08:00 Assist Seaton Hole Tasked to assist a broken down vessel requiring a tow 2 miles South of Seaton Hole. Up on arrival Sidmouth Lifeboat found the vessel to be already under tow by a local fishing vessel and once established that all on board were ok, were stood down.
04-16 03/07/2016 09:37 Assist Sidmouth Whilst on a routine training exercise Solent Coastguard requested the assistance of Sidmouth Lifeboat to verify whether one of the buoys from the local mussel farm had gone missing. The location of the buoy was attended by the Lifeboat but nothing was found, this was reported to Solent GC and the Lifeboat was then stood down.
05-16 17/07/2016 08:00 Assist Beer Sidmouth lifeboat was tasked at 8am to assist emergency services with an incident on the cliffs at Beer. All was well in the end and after the lifeboat provided safety cover for coast guard the police attained the casualty. Lifeboat remained on the sea after the call out to resume scheduled training.
06-16 22/07/2016 14:30 Assist Budleigh Salterton Tasked to a broken down fishing vessel at anchor close to rocks off Budleigh river mouth. The crew were with them within 22 minutes from moment alarm was raised. They were towed to the river Exe and taken along side up the estuary to marina and placed onto a pontoon. All three casualties were fine and thankful.
07-16 02/08/2016 14:45 Rescue Ladram Bay Sidmouth lifeboat was paged to assist two children who had been cut off by the tide on a rock stack and heavy sea at Ladram Bay. Due to conditions the boat as unable to get alongside the rock stack so it was decided that two crew would swim from the boat to the stack to talk down and recover the children. Once recovered to the boat they were transported to Sidmouth beach where they were taken back to the boathouse and reunited with their family at 15:45.
08-16 07/08/2016 14:39 Rescue Salcombe Mouth Sidmouth Lifeboat paged by HM Coastguard to assist a 6’ dingy, 2 person on board, 0.5 miles south-east of Sidmouth. They had been seen blowing downwind for some time, and were clearly not going to make shore safely. Lifeboat at sea and quickly on scene. Casualties, by now off of Salcombe Mouth, were at first determined to continue trying to make shore without assistance. Once it became clear to them that they would be carried onto rocks before making Salcombe Beach, they were recovered to the lifeboat and dropped safely at Salcombe, wishing to return to Sidmouth via the cliff path. Dingy brought back by the lifeboat.
09-16 08/08/2016 17:14 Rescue Littlecombe Shoot Sidmouth lifeboat was paged by Solent coastguard to a casualty with leg injuries at Littlecombe shoot. Both boats were launched to assist the causally from the beach and recovered her and her mother to the boat. The lifeboat recovered to Sidmouth beach where they were met by the ambulance team who took the causality onwards in their care.
10-16 11/08/2016 12:16 Search & Assist Budleigh Beach Sidmouth lifeboat was tasked to search for a missing dingy with one person believed to be in the water. Both Exmouth Lifeboats were launched as well as the coastguard helicopter. The coastguard helicopter recovered the casualty and the Exmouth ALB recovered the dingy to Budleigh beach with the assistance of the local coastguard teams.
11 & 12-16 15/08/2016 15:10 Search & Assist Sidmouth Beach Sidmouth lifeboat was tasked to 3 persons trapped by tide on the far side of a recent rockfall. Initially there was confusion from first informant over which beach the persons were on. Once the lifeboat identified the persons and the Beer & Sidmouth coastguard teams were able to establish that no further assistance was required as they had climbed back over the rocks. Whilst this was going on, the shore crew on beach dealt with an incident involving 2 male swimmers where one had got into trouble and had been washed dangerously close to the rocks. The shore crew were able to assist the casualty and help him across the rocks to safety.
13-16 16/08/2016 19:55 Assist Beer Head The Sidmouth lifeboat crew were in the station going through their training exercises for the evening when over the VHF they heard Lyme Regis lifeboat being tasked to one job, followed swiftly by another. The lifeboat crew contacted Solent coastguard to offer their assistance and were requested to launch. Lyme Regis Lifeboat station was contacted for the details and the tasking was to assist a fishing vessel which had engine problems at anchor 0.5nm south of Branscombe beach. The lifeboat identified the casualty vessel and set up a tow to recover the vessel to Lyme Regis harbour. Lifeboat recovered at 22:00.
14-16 14/09/2016 15:25 Rescue Seaton Hole Sidmouth lifeboat has just returned from service to a dog ‘Benjee’ who had been separated from his owners at Beer Beach and had been washed onto the beach which is inaccessible due to the tide. With the tide rising Sidmouth Lifeboat worked alongside Sidmouth and Beer Coastguard rescue teams to locate Benjee. A crewman was sent ashore and spent sometime coaxing a very scared Benjee to him to enable him to be attached to a lead and swam back to the boat with the assistance of another crewman. The lifeboat then placed Benjee, safe and well if a little wet, with his crewman ashore on Beer Beach to reunite him with his grateful owners and the coastguard teams. Lifeboat returned to station at 17:05.
15-16 27/10/2016 17:45 Search Beer Head Sidmouth lifeboat was tasked to search between Weston Mouth and Beer Head for a missing person alongside the local coastguard teams. Both boats were launched and proceeded to complete their close inshore searches in the fading light, using equipment such as night vision goggles and search lights. The area was well covered and nothing was found. Sidmouth lifeboat stood down just after 20:00 with coastguard and police teams continuing with their searching/enquiries.
16-16 03/11/2016 11:25 Search & Assist Budleigh Salterton Sidmouth Lifeboat launched to assist Exmouth Coastguard CRT in the rescue of a Labrador, Star, who had gone over sheer cliff to the east of the River Otter, Budleigh Salterton. Star was located by the lifeboat crew, and lifeboat made its way through the rocks towards the shore. 2 crew went ashore with a stretcher. Crew and CRT placed Star, still conscious but injured, on a stretcher and got her aboard the lifeboat. She was then taken to Budleigh by sea, and onwards to a vets where is receiving treatment at the time of writing. We wish Star and her owners well and hope for a speedy recovery. Lifeboat stood down and returned to station 12:50.A special mention to the Crewman who was enjoying his birthday as he responded to the pager today.

02-15 15/02/2015 17:01 Search Beer Head Launched to aid Beer coastguard teams with a search between Branscombe Mouth and Beer Head after a handbag was found unattended at the top of the cliff. As Sidmouth Lifeboat completed it’s search a Beer coastguard team located the casualties with the assistance of police at Seaton Hole. Returned to station at 17:44.
03-15 10/03/2015 18:19 Assist Beer Head Paged by Solent coastguard to a person spotted on the cliff top of Beer Head, the person in question turned out to be completing some form of base jumping and we were stood down prior to launch. A false alarm with good intent.
04-15 18/04/2015 08:10 Assist Sidmouth Beach Crew members were made aware of a member of the public whose dog had unfortunately gone over the cliff top of Salcombe Hill. The crew were able to use a tandem kayak to assist the owner in recovering the body of the dog and recover it to Sidmouth Beach.
05-15 19/05/2015 07:11 Search Beer Sidmouth Lifeboat paged by Solent Coastguard to search between Beer and Seaton for a missing person. Once on scene Sidmouth Lifeboat worked alongside Beer and Sidmouth Coastguard teams to thoroughly search the area for the missing person. The search was extended to Culverhole Point however, after a thorough search of this area did not yield any results, Sidmouth Lifeboat and the Coastguard teams were stood down by Solent Coastguard and returned to their stations at 9:30am whilst Police enquiries continue. The person was located later that day, safe and well.
06-15 22/05/2015 16:01 Assist Exmouth Lifeboat launched on service to casualty in the water towards Exmouth area, stood down on launch by Solent Coastguard as Rescue Helicopter 106 was able to locate and assist the casualty alongside Exmouth RNLI.
07-15 09/06/2015 13:20 Search Ladram Bay Sidmouth Lifeboat was launched to search for two persons who had departed Ladram Bay on an inflatable kayak a earlier that day and had not made it to their final destination point by the agreed time. The Lifeboat proceeded towards Ladram completing a close inshore search along the way, the kayakers were located on the isolated beach at Sandy Cove, between Ladram and Sidmouth, and a crewman was put ashore to assess the situation. The persons were both safe and well and were given advice by the crewman on how to exit their location safely in the worsening conditions after they refused assistance. The Lifeboat stood by until the kayakers had made it safely back to shore at Ladram Bay before standing down.
08-15 05/07/2015 16:30 Assist Sidmouth Sidmouth Lifeboat’s new Launch Vehicle was in action today for it’s first callout. The crew were paged by Solent Coastguard to respond to a windsurfer 1/4 miles off Sidmouth who was in difficulty with insufficient wind to make it to shore. One of the Lifeboat crew who was surfing in the area at the time was able to paddle out to the windsurfer and made sure he was comfortable in his self recovery. The crew proceeded to the launch site as the windsurfer was swimming alongside his board to shore, they stood by until he made it safely to shore.
09-15 12/07/2015 13:00 Assist Sidmouth Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to assist several people who had become stranded on the Eastern beach due to the rising tide. They were making their way back to safety and the Lifeboat was placed on the beach ready to launch if required. The persons made it safely to the seafront area and were given a safety brief for future reference.
10-15 18/07/2015 16:20 Assist Weston Mouth Sidmouth Lifeboat launched by Solent Coastguard to assist the Devon Air Ambulance with the recovery of an unconscious casualty at Weston Mouth. Lifeboat arrived on scene and put a crewman ashore to assess the situation and liaise with the Air Ambulance crew. The casualty was conscious and talking upon arrival, in the excellent care of the Air Ambulance, and the Lifeboat stayed on scene until the Air Ambulance had extracted the casualty from the area.
11-15 19/07/2015 14:30 Assist Littlecombe Shoot Tasked to assist Beer and Sidmouth Coastguard teams, to a casualty with back injuries, with a casualty extraction from the coastal path at Littlecombe Shoot. The Lifeboat put two crew ashore, one a of whom is a paramedic, to assess the situation. 104 Rescue Helicopter was tasked by Solent Coastguard and once the Coastguard and Lifeboat teams had got the casualty onto the stretcher he was winched up into the helicopter for a transfer to hospital.
12-15 29/07/2015 14:45 Assist Sidmouth Sidmouth Lifeboat launched to a kayak towing a small dinghy towards Weston Mouth in an offshore wind. Lifeboat located the vessels and made sure they were safe, well and reached their destination. A safety brief was given to all of those onboard to ensure their safety on their return leg.
13-15 27/09/2015 15:05 Rescue Sidmouth Lifeboat launched to a swimmer in difficulty off Sidmouth Beach. Lifeboat proceeded to launch site where the casualty had been recovered to the beach by another swimmer. Lifeboat crew provided first aid treatment to the casualty and recovered the life buoy used in the rescue before standing down.
14-15 31/12/2015 15:40 Search Sidmouth Sidmouth lifeboat was launched to search for a missing bodyboarder, last seen 30 minutes before being tasked and had been heading east from the beach at the eastern end of Sidmouth seafront.
The lifeboat launched and searched, close inshore, between Sidmouth Beach and Salcombe mouth with nothing found. The attending coastguard teams from Sidmouth and Beer were able, following conversations with a number of them to identify which had been spotted and were able to account for everyone. The Lifeboat and Search & Rescue helicopter 106 completed a final search of the area and were stood down at 16:45.

01-14 25-01-14 14:58 Rescue Branscombe Beach Sidmouth Lifeboat crew were tasked to reports of a person in distress in the water who had become detached from their kayak. Sidmouth Lifeboat crew were stood down prior to launch as the person has made it to shore, Beer Coastguard team working alongside the Portland Rescue helicopter 106 were then able to ensure the wellbeing of the casualty who had suffered no significant injuries requiring attention.
02-14 16-02-14 09:15 Assist Seaton Hole Whilst out on routine training Sidmouth Lifeboat was asked by Portland Coastguard to assist in the recovery of a partially submerged vessel, spotted just minutes before by a local working vessel roughly 2 miles off Culverhole Point. Sidmouth Lifeboat contacted the local vessel and identified the vessel to be a 7 foot tender which, upon the request of the coastguard, was then towed into the beach for later collection.
03-14 23-02-14 18:45 Assist Seaton Beach At the request of Portland coastguard a team from Sidmouth Lifeboat attended Seaton Beach, where a container had washed ashore and needed to be emptied of 3,000 boxes ahead of the rising tide. The container is believed to be one of several washed off of a ship in the South West Approaches during recent storms. The crew assisted coastguard teams from across the disctrict (who had been working throughout the day) completing the task and returning to Sidmouth at 21:30.
04-14 12-03-14 17:33 Recovery Otterton Ledge Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to reports of a dog reportedly having gone over the top of a cliff near the mouth of the river Otter. Sidmouth Lifeboat performed a close inshore search, with the assistance of Exmouth Coastguard from the cliff top and with a Lifeboat crewman ashore were able to identify the body of a young dog at the foot of the cliff. The dog was taken to the boat and returned to the Lifeboat station to await collection from the owners. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
05-14 07-04-14 13:00 Search Ladram Bay to Axemouth Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to search for a missing 59 year old man following discovery of his boat washed up at West Bay. Lyme Regis lifeboat, Exmouth ALB and ILB as well as Coastguard helo 106 were all involved in the search. Search completed with nothing found and the Lifeboat was stood down at 14:00, sadly the deceased was found shortly afterwards at West Bay. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.
06-14 16-04-14 16:05 Search Beer beach Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to reports of two people in difficulty in the water after being cut off by the tide between Beer and Seaton. On arrival Sidmouth Lifeboat worked with coastguard helicopter 106 and both Beer and Sidmouth coastguard teams to search the area, nothing was found after several searches and everyone involved was confident that there were no persons in trouble in the area. All units were stood down and returned to their stations.
07-14 23-04-14 10:30 Recovery Salcombe mouth Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked by Portland Coastguard to assist with the search for a missing person. Alongside the well drilled teams of Beer and Sidmouth Coastguard and Portland coastguard helicopter 106, Sidmouth Lifeboat searched from Sidmouth Beach to Littlecombe shoot and returned no results. On arrival on the scene, Rescue 106 having completed their own search with their aerial vantage point were able to locate the deceased casualty at the foot of Salcombe hill. They were then able to guide Sidmouth Lifeboat to the scene and, after deploying two Lifeboat crew to the shore they were able to recover the deceased through the building surf to the Lifeboat and then return to station where the paramedics and police were waiting. The family have been informed and our thoughts are with them all at this difficult time.
08-14 11-05-14 11:40 Assist Sidmouth Whilst out on a routine training exercise, Sidmouth Lifeboat were alerted to a tandem kayak crew who had found themselves in difficulty on the seaward side of the rock islands. The kayak had capsized and it’s crew were struggling, due to the conditions, to get back on board and were nearing exhaustion. The Lifeboat then took them aboard and assessed them, they were found to be fit and well. The crew and the kayak were then both recovered to the beach.
09-14 29-06-14 11:35 Assist Sidmouth Tasked, along with Exmouth Lifeboat and Rescue 106 Helicopter to a Mayday from a 12m fishing vessel taking on water. On arrival the skipper of the vessel confirmed they had cleared the water and resolved the issue. Sidmouth Lifeboat remained on-scence until the arrival of Exmouth Lifeboat and Rescue 106. As the skipper of the vessel was content and happy to carry on fishing, all Emergency Services were stood down.
10-14 17-07-14 14:00 Assist Sidmouth While about to launch the new “Sidmouth 2” Searider RIB for her maiden training exercise, a member of the public alerted Sidmouth Lifeboat crew to a small fishing boat, 200m off of Sidmouth, which was possibly having engine trouble. “Sidmouth 2” had arrived on station earlier that day, following a fundraising Tour of Britain cycle ride by several members of the crew which also raised awareness of other Independent (non-RNLI) Stations. She was launched and was able to quickly ascertain that the fishing boat in question was in fact not in trouble. She then continued her training exercise.
11-14 20-07-14 13:29 Assist Sidmouth Tasked to a 3m Rigid Inflatable (RIB) vessel with 2 persons onboard, broken down 0.5 miles off of Salcombe Mouth. Casualty vessel taken in tow, and returned to Clifton Beach, Sidmouth, safe and well.
12-14 29-07-14 19:04 Assist Budleigh During routine training Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to a report of a Windsurfer believed to be in difficulty around the DZ Buoys off Budleigh Beach. Sidmouth Lifeboat arrived on scene and established that the Windsurfer was not in any difficulty and was happy to continue.
13-14 12-08-14 23:30 Search Seaton Hole Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to a report of a white light spotted at sea level between Kings Aisle Rock and Seaton Hole. Beer coastguard teams were already on scene having been tasked to investigate the light. Sidmouth Lifeboat arrived on scene and commenced a number of close inshore searches of the area between Beer Beach and Seaton Hole. A passing Fisherman approached Beer Coastguard to confirm he had been at the location and it was established that his was the light that had been spotted. All units were then stood down and returned to station.
14-14 28-09-14 10:12 Search Sidmouth During routine training Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to assist Beer Coastguard team in the search for a person following the discovery of a pile of clothes on the beach that morning. Sidmouth Lifeboat and the new Sidmouth 2 carried out a close inshore search along Sidmouth beach and beyond. Nothing was found and all units were stood down.
15-14 07-10-14 16:39 Rescue Otterton Ledge Lifeboat launched to the assistance of a father and son in trouble while kayaking in quickly deteriorating sea conditions at Budleigh Salterton. It quickly became apparent that the son had made Budleigh Beach safely, but the adult was out of the kayak and being carried over the rocks at Otterton Ledge. Casualty spotted by the lifeboat crew and brought aboard the lifeboat safe and well. He was then taken to Budleigh Beach and handed over to Exmouth Coastguard who were waiting ashore.
16-14 11-10-14 11:39 Assist Salcombe mouth Tasked to 5 persons cut off by tide on the beach underneath Salcombe hill. The 5 persons were located between the recent rock falls and advised to be taken aboard the lifeboat and returned to Sidmouth due to the danger of their position but chose instead to walk back along the beach. The lifeboat crew gave them a safety briefing and supervised them, from the boat, until they made it back to the seafront.
17-14 17-10-14 11:52 Search Seaton Bay Tasked to a search for the crew of a 25ft yacht which had run aground East of Axmouth Harbour. No crew were on board although there were clothes and food supplies, the yacht was last seen near Teignmouth have previous evening. Sidmouth Lifeboat worked alongside Lyme Regis lifeboat, Portland Rescue helicopter 106 and Lyme, Beer and Sidmouth Coastguard teams, as well as Police, to conduct thorough searches of the shorelines and seas between Lyme Regis and Exmouth. Aside from a sailing jacket, which was found near the scene and recovered from the water, nothing else of significance had been seen by any team. After several hours of searching all areas the search was suspended until further investigation has taken place.

03-13 29-06-13 18:30 Rescue Ladram Bay Tasked to a Kayaker being blown offshore 0.5 miles off of Ladram Bay. The Kayaker was located 2 miles offshore and being rapdily blown further out. The kayaker was taken on board and returned safely to Sidmouth.
04-13 01-07-13 14:19 Assist Weston Mouth Tasked to assist an inflatable reported to be in trouble. On arrival the 2 men in the inflatable were both fit and well and not in any distress. An offer to assist them back to shore was made but declined by the men who made their own way safely back to Sidmouth.
05-13 09-07-13 13:51 Recovery Sidmouth Tasked to reports of a person collapsed on the rocks under Peak Hill. Lifeboat crew located the individual and helped transport Police & Coastguard officers to the scene. Sadly the person was pronounced dead at the scene and recovered to hospital by Police helicopter. Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the friends and family of the deceased.
06-13 20-07-13 12:20 Search Ladram Bay Tasked to search for an orange kayak with 2 teenagers reported missing between Jacobs Ladder and Ladram Bay. Several close in-shore searches were carried out as far as Otterton Ledge. The 2 teenagers were found safe and well on the beach at Ladram Bay.
07-13 05-09-13 17:30 Assist Sidmouth Beach Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to reports of a jet-ski and two persons in distress approximately 1 mile south of Sidmouth beach. Sidmouth crew members quickly identified and confirmed the jet-ski to be that which was in trouble, took the two persons on board and rigged an astern tow. They then proceeded to tow the jet-ski into Sidmouth beach where waiting crew members were able to pull it up onto the beach for the owners to collect at a later time.
08-13 23-09-13 20:45 Assist Sidmouth Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked by Portland Coastguard following reports of a yacht adrift very close to Sidmouth Beach and not responding to calls on VHF radio.Once alongside the casualty vessel the Skipper stated that they did not require assistance and were waiting for low tide in order to come ashore.Sidmouth Lifeboat Coxswain explained that they would not be able to get ashore at low tide and suggested that it may be more prudent to return to Exmouth. The Skipper of the vessel declined any assistance, and instead continued down the coast in an Easterly direction.
09-13 26-09-13 19:28 Assist Sidmouth Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to assist a person who had fallen from the cliff, half-way along Jacobs Ladder Beach. Paramedics, police helicopter and a cliff coastguard crew were also on scene.​Weather, wave, and surf conditions were not suitable for recovery of the casualty by lifeboat, who had suspected spinal injuries and had suffered considerable trauma. Portland Coastguard helicopter was tasked to complete a winched stretcher casualty recovery.​Sidmouth Lifeboat was retained on standby during the exercise. The casualty was then airlifted to hospital and Sidmouth Lifeboat was stood down along with other units.
10-13 03-10-13 14:39 Assist Ladram Bay Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to assist with the recovery of a body which had been located on the beach between Ladram Bay and Sandy Cove. The coastguard were unable to access the area via a cliff rescue and although two crewmen were put ashore, they were unable to recover the deceased to the boat through the increasingly worsening sea conditions and the rising tide. The two crewmen returned to the Lifeboat as the SAR Helicopter was tasked to assess the scene and the decision was made to stand down and for the coastguard team to recover the deceased later that evening on a low tide. 11-13 16-10-13 20:50 Assist Ladram Bay Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked at 8.50 to a search for a missing Kayaker off of Budleigh Salterton to assist Exmouth ALB and ILB who were on scene.
Sidmouth Lifeboat commenced a search from Black Head to Otteron Ledge. During this search the Portland Coastguard helicopter identified the location of the casualty along Budleigh beach at 21:09. 12-13 23-11-13 14:40 Recovery Ladram Bay Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to reports of a Dog having gone over the cliff top near Ladram bay, in Sandy Cove. Exmouth Coastguard were at the cliff top and requested the Lifeboat’s assistance. Sidmouth located the deceased animal at the foot of the cliff and recovered it to the boat and then boathouse for later collection by the Owners.
13-13 23-11-13 14:40 Assist Sidmouth Beach Whilst responding to the previous callout Sidmouth Lifeboat were made aware by concerned members of the public of a windsurfer in difficulty off of Sidmouth, Sidmouth Lifeboat reached the windsurfer and confirmed that he was not in too much difficulty in the strong offshore winds and were in scene to ensure that he was able to recover to the beach safely.

 02-12 16-03-12 09.18 Rescue Jacobs Ladder Launched to assist a female swimmer in distress at Jacobs Ladder. Additional Lifeboat crew in attendance on the beach, along with Police officers and Ambulance crew. The casualty was assisted offshore safe and well.
 03-12 05-05-12 16.15 Rescue Ladram Bay Launched to reports of 5 persons being cut off by the tide near Ladram Bay. In fact, 7 persons were found to be coming into danger, and a Lifeboat crewman was put ashore to give advice regarding the rising tide and a safe course of action.
 04-12 13-05-12 13.07 Rescue Ladram Bay Launched to a broken down motorboat at Ladram Bay with 4 persons on board. Vessel taken in tow by Sidmouth Lifeboat towards Axmouth. Conditions found to be unsuitable for entry into the Axe and towed continued to Lyme Regis.
 05-12 19-07-12 19.04 Search Sidmouth Beach  The retirement dinner for outgoing Senior Coxswain Simon Sparrow was delayed when Sidmouth Lifeboat was launched to reports of a body floating in the water off of Sidmouth. The object was found to be a coat.
 06-12 07-08-12 04.24 Rescue Sidmouth Beach Launched in the early hours of the morning to search for a missing swimmer off of Sidmouth Beach. Nightsights and Searchlights were utilised in quickly finding the confused swimmer 50m offshore and swimming away from land. He was taken aboard and returned safely to shore.

 08-12 15-08-12 18.09 Rescue Seaton Paged by Portland Coastguard following reports of a swimmer in trouble in heavy seas at Seaton. Conditions would have meant the 7 miles transit to Seaton would have taken an hour (as opposed to the usual 10 minutes) and assistance in breaking surf would have been impossible. A team was about to be dispatched by road to render assistance directly from the beach, when the casualty was reported safely washed ashore.
 09-12 23-09-12 17.01 Rescue Sidmouth Beach Paged following a surfer reported to be in difficulty in large waves at Clifton Beach, Sidmouth. Lifeboat exiting boathouse for launch was stood down when surfer safely made it ashore.
 10-12 26-12-12 10.30 Rescue Sidmouth Beach  While providing safety cover for the annual Boxing Day swim at Sidmouth, a number of casualties were washed onto rocks by rapidly increasing wind and sea conditions. Assistance was given by Lifeboat crew and members of the public, with treatment given in the boathouse for minor grazes.

09/01/11 14:27 Investigation Axmouth

Sidmouth Lifeboat was launched at the request of Portland Coastguard to investigate a raft adrift off of Axmouth.It was confirmed that the raft had broken free from Axmouth Harbour , and was unmanned. It was towed to waiting Coastguards on the beach at Seaton. 

While returning to Sidmouth the lifeboat was re-tasked to assist Coastguard cliff-top teams who were winching a team member down the cliff at Jacobs Ladder to rescue a dog. The dog was recovered alive and well to the cliff top. Lifeboat stood down and returned to Sidmouth

03-11 09/02/11 20:21 Investigation Branscombe Sidmouth Lifeboat was launched at the request of Portland Coastguard, to investigate an object floating in the water 2 miles south of Branscombe/Beer Head.Sidmouth Lifeboat was guided to the last sighted location by local Coastguard teams on Beer Head.Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 106 and Sidmouth Lifeboat completed an extensive search of the area in failing light. Searches complete and nothing found, Sidmouth Lifeboat and Rescue 106 were stood down by Portland Coastguard.
04-11 08/04/11 20:21 Search Beer Head Launched to assist with a search for an object reported to be seen floating approximately 2 nm off of Beer Head. Sidmouth Lifeboat, working on scene with the Coastguard Helicopter, performed an expanding box search. Nothing was found and the Lifeboat was stood down at 21.21.
05-11 12/04/11 19:15 Assist Exmouth While on routine training off of Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to assist Exmouth Coastguard team in dealing with a cliff top incident at Orcombe Point, Exmouth.Lifeboat stood down to returned to station at 20:25
06-11 21/04/11 17:55 Search Lyme Regis Launched to assist in the search for a missing diver 3 miles off Lyme Regis. Search also involved Lyme and Weymouth Lifeboats, Coastguard Helos 104 and 106, RFA Gold Rover and a number of smaller vessels.Sidmouth Lifeboat and other units progressively stood down with fading daylight. Missing diver sadly not found.Whilst en route to Sidmouth a new search was commenced following sighting of (unrelated) possible red flare in the area offshore Sidmouth. Crew change & refuel; search continued using radar, searchlights and night sights. Nothing was found.
07-11 31/05/11 17:15 Assist Branscombe Launched to assist an 18ft yacht adrift of Branscombe. On arrival found that the vessel had been anchored 10m off Branscombe beach. Towed the vessel to a safe anchorage in Beer.
08-11 26/06/11 11:40 Assist Axmouth While on routine training, Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to a fishing vessel, beached and taking on water at the mouth of the River Axe, near Seaton. The vessel was found breached to the waves and full of water. Two fishing boats had attempted to tow the vessel into the waves – to enable bailing. Sidmouth Lifeboat put a crewman and pump aboard the stricken vessel and attempted to turn the vessel’s bow into the waves, but the vessel continued to take on water. The vessel was towed to a point on the shingle bar opposite the harbour entrance to facilitate a tractor winch recovery.
09-11 26/06/11 23:57 Search Ladram Bay Lifeboat launched at the request of Portland Coastguard to search for a small vessel between Ladram Bay and Budleigh Salterton. The vessel was reported to be without lights, lifejackets, etc and overdue .Search commenced at Big Picket Rock heading West. A boat ashore at Ladram Bay was confirmed as being the vessel in question.
10-11 30/07/11 16:37 Assist Ladram Bay Lifeboat launched at the request of Portland Coastguard to search for a 21 foot motor, boat broken down, ½ mile South of Ladram Bay. The vessel was taken under tow to Axmouth Harbour (Seaton) and moored on an offshore buoy at the request of the skipper
11-11 01/08/11 19:43 Search Weston Lifeboat launched at the request of Portland Coastguard to search for a small rubber dinghy with three persons on board. The vessel was out of Seaton and overdue for arrival at Sidmouth. The crew were reported in difficulties 300metres south of Weston Mouth, without appropriate clothing, lights or lifejackets. The crew and vessel were found and taken aboard the lifeboat with one casualty suffering from mild hypothermia. Casualties were taken to Sidmouth to recover and safety briefed by HM Coastguard.
12-11 03/08/11 15:58 Search Sidmouth Lifeboat launched at the request of Portland Coastguard to search for missing 10-year old girl on Sidmouth Beach. Several close inshore searches were performed with nothing found. The 10 year old girl was reported to be found ashore safe and well. A member of the public raised the alarm that several children were in difficulty on the rock groin outside the boathouse. Sidmouth Lifeboat aided by shore crew in drysuits, and members of the public, pulled two children and one adult to safety. Casualties were treated for cuts and bruises, and shock in the lifeboat station.

After several searches using night nights and illuminants nothing was found and Sidmouth Lifeboat was stood down by Portland Coastguard. Sidmouth lifeboat returned to station at 04:54

14-11 15/08/11 15:56 Rescue Branscombe Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to assist a 19 foot fishing vessel that had been washed onto rocks near Beer Head with two persons on board.A crew member swam to the fishing boat with a line and the boat was towed off the rocks and recovered to Beer Beach.Sidmouth Lifeboat returned to station at 18:04
15-11 18/08/11 11:43 Search Sidmouth The Lifeboat was launched to assist in the search for a missing male, whose car had been abandoned on Sidmouth Sea Front the previous evening. Police, Coastguard Units and RAF SAR Helo were also involved. Having confirmed the foreshore and cliff face were clear from Brandy head to Branscombe Sidmouth Lifeboat was stood down and completed a net recovery.
16-11 21/08/11 21:34 Rescue Sidmouth Lifeboat launched to the assistance of a 29’ Yacht with damaged mast and engine failure 6 miles south west of Lyme Regis. Sidmouth lifeboat took the yacht under tow and handed the tow over to Exmouth lifeboat 4 miles south of Sidmouth at 23:17 for them to complete the tow to Exmouth.

18-11 25/10/11 15:05 Assist Littlecombe Shoot Launched to possible shipping container floating in the sea just off of Littlecombe Shoot. Beer coastguard were on scene and from the cliff tops were able to direct the Lifeboat to the location of the object. The object was discovered to be a container door, no ID marks were identified and the position was recorded before towing the door to Branscombe beach where it was winched ashore. Returned to complete a search of the datum area and to confirm nothing else in the water.
19-11 04/11/11 08:34 Investigation Seaton Lifeboat launched after reports of a body off of Seaton Hole, on arrival Police had recovered the body after it had washed ashore. Crew members went ashore to provide assistance and returned to station shortly afterwards

Whilst on Sunday training Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked by Portland Coastguard to assist a motor yacht taking on water. ILB picked up the salvage pump from the boathouse and used the pump to decant the stricken vessel. The vessel was then towed to Exmouth dock, where the casualty vessel was handed over to Exmouth Lifeboat to complete it’s journey. Sidmouth ILB stood down and returned to training.

The crew were transferred safe and well back to Budleigh Salterton by Exmouth Lifeboat.

Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked by Portland Coastguard to search for a speedboat with 1 person on board thought to be drifting SE of Budleigh Salterton. The vessel was located on rocks and taking in water. Due to rocks and sea conditions the lifeboat could only approach to with 20m of the stricken vessel. A crewman entered the water on a swimming line and recovered the skipper to the Lifeboat. The skipper was then returned to his family on Budleigh beach. The Lifeboat then returned and made several attempts to recover the vessel, but to no avail.

Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked by Portland Coastguard to assist an outboard powered Mirror dinghy, with no sails or mast, which had broken down near Branscombe. The vessel was sighted approximately 1.5nm offshore and drifting in strong offshore winds. The 2 casualties were found without lifejackets, flares or a VHF radio, taken on board Sidmouth Lifeboat and returned to Port Royal beach along with their vessel.

During routine training Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked by Portland Coastguard to search for an 80 year old couple and their daughter reported as lost or possibly cut off by the tide at Weston Beach. The lifeboat conducted a close inshore search between Hook Ebb and Branscombe Ebb, putting a crewman ashore to talk to beach users. With no confirmed sightings and a lack of light the lifeboat was stood down. Coastguard teams continued the search inland.
17-10 25/09/10 12:07 Search Sidmouth Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked by Portland Coastguard, to search between Jacobs Ladder Beach and Ladram Bay for 2 young children blown offshore in a dinghy. Sidmouth Lifeboat conducted a close inshore search between Jacobs Ladder and Ladram and quickly located the casualties half a mile offshore. The children were recovered safe and well to their grandparents on Jacobs Ladder Beach and the lifeboat was stood down.
18-10 10/10/10 15:46 Rescue Branscombe Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked by Portland Coastguard, to search for one Laser dinghy and one catamaran in trouble south of Sherborne Rocks (east of Branscombe). Boats crewed by a son and father respectively. Boats were located one mile south of Branscombe.  The Laser had capsized and was holed (sinking). Crew confirmed that no-one else was in trouble, took the boy on board towed the Laser to Beer Beach , where the boy was reunited with his mother, safe and well. Lifeboat returned to escort the father and his catamaran to Beer Beach .
19-10 23/10/10 08:42 Recovery Sidmouth Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked by Portland Coastguard, to investigate a small fishing boat drifting half a mile south of Sidmouth. Coastguard was concerned that crew had been lost overboard. Lifeboat arrived on scene and established that engine was down and no crew in the vicinity. Coastguard confirmed that a 999 call had been received from a Ladram Bay fisherman to report a boat missing from Ladram Bay Beach .Crew confirmed that the fuel supply was disconnected and completed a tow to Ladram Bay where the boat was safely put ashore and winched up the beach to safety. Owner present.

21-10 07/11/10 15:27 Search Ladram Bay Sidmouth Lifeboat was launched at the request of Portland Coastguard, to search for a Spaniel which was believed to have gone over the cliff between Ladram Bay and High Peak. A crewman was put ashore at Big Picket, to walk the shoreline towards Sandy Cove while the Lifeboat conducted a close inshore search. The dog was found on the shore at the eastern end of Sandy Cove.  Sadly it had not survived the fall.  It was taken aboard the lifeboat and returned to the owners, in company with Coastguard Officers, at Ladram Bay

004/09 23/05/09 19:50 Rescue Western Mouth Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to search to the East of Sidmouth for 2 people aboard a dinghy with suspected engine failure. The dinghy was located about 200 meters off the shore at Weston Mouth.
The occupants were unharmed, and taken aboard Sidmouth lifeboat. The dinghy was towed back to Sidmouth.
The 2 people and vessel were put safely ashore at Port Royal beach.

011/09 25/06/09 11:06 Rescue Otterton Ledge Sidmouth Lifeboat was launched to a report of a swimmer in trouble off of Otterton Ledge, near Budleigh Salterton. Coastguard Helicopter R106, from Portland was also scrambled to the scene.
Sidmouth Lifeboat and R106 on scene at 11:12. Casualty recovered from the water safe and well, and taken by helicopter to coastguard’s at Budleigh. ILB then stood down to return to Station at 11:29.
012/09 08/07/09 16:37 Search Sidmouth Area Sidmouth Lifeboat was launched to to search for a missing person in the Salcombe Hill area. The Lifeboat performed a close inshore search from Sidmouth to Beer Head, with nothing found. The Lifeboat was then stood down at 17:50 by Portland Coastguard.

A search was then made to the East of Sidmouth along to Weston Mouth. Nothing untoward was found and the lifeboat was returned to station.
014/09 12/07/09 13:22 Rescue High Peak Sidmouth Lifeboat was taked by Portland Coastguard to investigate a report of clothing sighted on the cliffs near Big Picket Rock. The Coastguard helicopter then reported a body on the beach below High Peak, but was unable to recover the body. Sidmouth 2 was also launched and both Lifeboats stood by while Police and Coastguards assesed the situation. Sidmouth 2 was tasked to marshal people away from the scene on the beach. The Coastguard helicopter then recovered the body and both Lifeboats recovered to station.
015/09 23/07/09 12:18 Rescue Weston Mouth Sidmouth Lifeboat launched at the request of Portland Coastguard to investigate a tent on the beach at Weston Mouth. One crewman was put ashore to ascertain that all was well with the occupant of the tent. He was informed regarding spring tides and the fact that the cliffs are unstable. Also attending were three coastguard cliff team from Beer.
016/09 26/07/09 12:13 Rescue Beer Lifeboat launched, at the request of Portland Coastguard, in response to 4 persons suspected to be cut-off by the tide between Beer and Seaton beaches. A close in-shore search was conducted between Beer Beach (Kings Hole Rock) and Seaton Beach. All persons were found safe and well on Beer Pier.
017/09 01/08/09 19:04 Search Beer Area Lifeboat launched, at the request of Portland Coastguard, to search for a missing person. 02-08 27/01/08 11:18 Search Budleigh Salterton At the request of the Police a shoreline search was carried out from Otterton ledge to Littleham Cove, West of Budleigh Salterton. A young male had been reported missing last night.
Coastguard teams and police helicopter also carried out a search of the area in the morning.
The missing Person was found safe and well and the search stood down.
03-08 21/03/08 18:00 Search Beer Head ILB tasked to perform a close inshore search of the Beer Head area including the cliff tops, for a reported missing person. ILB performed search and was then stood down due to failing daylight. The Missing person was later located safe and well. Also involved were Lyme Regis Lifeboat, Beer Coast Guard & the Coast Guard Helicopter.
04-08 14/05/08 18:21 Rescue Danger Point Following a call from Portland Coastguard Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to attend a kayaker who had capsized and was unable to get back into his craft. The lifeboat was on scene at the base of the cliffs at Danger Point, just east of Budleigh Salterton, at 1827The casualty was brought on board the lifeboat and found to be hypothermic and vomiting. It was therefore decided that he should be winched from the lifeboat onto Coastguard helicopter R107, which was en route, for immediate transfer to Dorchester hospital. This accomplished, the lifeboat was back at station at 18:58.
05-08 19/05/08 12:20 Search Sidmouth Following a call from Portland Coastguard Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to search the area between Ladram Bay and Weston mouth for missing female. Nothing found.The Lifeboat was stood down at 1324 hrs and was ready for service at 1410 hrs.
06-08 26/06/08 13:00 Search Sidmouth Portland Coastguard tasked Sidmouth Lifeboat to search the beach East of Sidmouth between the river Sid and Salcombe Mouth.A party of five people were reported to have been cut off by the tide. On arriving at the scene the crew made sure the group were not in any danger and they returned to Sidmouth by Coast path from Salcombe Mouth. The Lifeboat was stood down at 13.17 hrs and was ready for service at 13.30hrs.
07-08 01/07/08 16:10 Rescue Ladram Bay Portland Coastguard tasked Sidmouth Lifeboat to attend a dinghy, 2 persons on board, reported in difficulty off Ladram bay, West of Sidmouth. The dinghy with two lads aboard was towed ashore by another vessel in the area just before the lifeboat arrived on scene. A crew member went ashore to establish all was well and the lifeboat returned to station.
The Lifeboat was stood down at 16.25 hrs and was turned around and ready for service at 16.55hrs.
08-08 12/07/08 08:10 Rescue High Peak Portland Coastguard tasked Sidmouth Lifeboat to assist Devon and Cornwall Police in recovering a body from the beach west of Picket Rock.Beer Coastguard Team, Sidmouth Coastguard team, Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopter and Police helicopter were also in attendance.
09-08 23/07/08 15:50 Search River Sid Portland Coastguard tasked Sidmouth Lifeboat to check out a recent landslide to the East of the River Sid. Nothing untoward reported. The Lifeboat returned to station and was ready for service at 16:26 hours.
10-08 24/07/08 12:53 Rescue Sidmouth Portland Coastguard tasked Sidmouth Lifeboat to assist in recovering four people from Chit Rocks. The casualties had already been recovered and the lifeboat was asked to complete a sweep of the beach to make sure no-one else was in difficulty. Due to the South-Easterly wind, the current around Chit Rocks and the rock islands was stronger than usual.
11-08 24/07/08 15:00 Rescue Sidmouth Portland Coastguard tasked Sidmouth Lifeboat to assist in recovering six people from Chit Rocks. The casualties had made it back to shore, and were being treated by an ambulance crew.Due to the South-Easterly wind, the current around Chit Rocks and the rock islands was stronger than usual. 12-08 05/08/08 02:05 Search Ladram Bay Portland Coastguard tasked Sidmouth Lifeboat to investigate 2 red flares reported seen out at sea South of Ladram Bay. Beer and Exmouth Coastguard teams were also on scene and searched the shore around the area of Ladram Bay. Sidmouth Lifeboat searched the sea area from Ladram Bay towards Brandy Head widening the area to the South. Nothing untoward was found, Lifeboat and coastguards were stood down at 03:23.
13-08 08/08/08 21:13 Rescue Sidmouth Police on the seafront alerted the Boathouse to a woman who had swum some distance offshore and was in difficulty. The lifeboat was launched and immediately proceeded toward the casualty’s reported position. She had in the meantime been swept toward the vessel Pride of the Exe which was anchored offshore. The lifeboat crew went aboard and assessed the casualty before moving her to the lifeboat and returning to the shore and transferring her to the waiting ambulance.
14-08 12/08/08 16:08 Rescue Ladram Bay Sidmouth Lifeboat was launched by Portland Coastguard following a report of two people clinging to rocks near Ladram Bay. On arriving on scene the crew spotted the casualties, who had been at sea in an inflatable dinghy, on the southern end of a rock stack, just clear of the water. Due to the sea conditions it was necessary to put a crewman on a swimming line to recover the casualties to the lifeboat. The boat then returned to Sidmouth where the casualties were transferred to an ambulance. At the request of the coastguard a second launch was carried out to recover the damaged dinghy which had been separated from the 2 casualties.
15-08 13/08/08 Search Lyme Regis Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to proceed to Culver hole point, near Lyme Regis, to assist Lyme Regis Lifeboat in an on-going search for two kayakers reported overdue.
02:00 a relief crew were driven to Lyme Regis for a crew change and to refuel the lifeboat.
The original crew rested in Lyme Regis boat house for another 3 hours.
05:30 The crew was changed again and the lifeboats refuelled.
An RAF Search and rescue helicopter from RMB Chivenor and Weymouth all weather lifeboat joined the search at first light.
Lyme Regis and West Bay Coastguard teams carried out shore line searches of the area along with the Dorset Police. The MCGA press release of this incident can be found here08:30 the reported missing persons were located safe and well and the search stood down.
16-08 22/08/08 14:43 Rescue Sidmouth Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to recover a small inflatable dinghy, which due to the offshore wind, was being blown out to sea about 100 metres off Sidmouth. 1 person reported to be aboard. As Sidmouth lifeboat was launching from Clifton beach two canoeists helped in the rescue by towing the casualty toward the shore, the lifeboat crew then assisted the casualty onto the lifeboat and brought her ashore. The casualty was extremely cold from being in the water so was suspected to be suffering from hypothermia. An ambulance was called to transfer her to Exeter hospital for a check-up. She was released later
17-08 01/09/08 14:45 Search Beer Head Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to search for a 14′ sailing yacht missing in Lyme Bay. The yacht had departed Exmouth Marina and was heading for Lyme Regis in 2-3m seas. Sidmouth Lifeboat searched from Sidmouth to Beer Head where the yacht was found to have made it safely to Lyme Regis. The lifeboat then returned to station and was ready for service at 15:46. 18-08 23/12/08 15:00 Investigation Beer Head Lifeboat was requested by Portland Coastguard, to investigate Beer Head and ascertain if the parachute left behind during the rescue of a base jumper the previous day, was still present. ILB searched the area and located the parachute still stuck on the cliffs approx. mid way down. Information was passed to the Coastguard and ILB then returned to station.
19-08 23/11/08 23:05 Search Sidmouth Area Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to assist the police in a shoreline search for an elderly male missing in the Sidmouth area. The area covered was from Big Picket rock to the West of Sidmouth up to Weston Mouth in the East. Beer coastguard search and rescue teams and the police were involved in the search. After a thorough search of the area using white para Illuminants nothing untoward was found. The lifeboat returned to station and was ready for service at 01:40

The recovery vessel “Valour” arrived on scene and Pride of Sidmouth was stood down.

After discussion with the salvage team on the Napoli and the Coastguard no further action was deemed necessary.

Following a 999 call to Portland Coastguard, Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to a reported fire aboard the Dutch support tug from the MSC Napoli. The Vessel was located at anchor approx 1 ½ nautical miles South of Seaton. The crew aboard had been having a barbeque in a large oil drum on the stern deck. The flames were seen in Seaton, and reported by concerned members of the public.
Nothing untoward was found and Pride of Sidmouth returned to Station

Following a distress call to Portland Coastguard from a local fishing vessel, Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to a rowing boat in difficulties off Ladram Bay with 2 persons on board. The boat was located approx ½ mile off Ladram Bay. The crew aboard had been attempting to row ashore against a strong northerly wind after their engine had failed. The crew were taken on board the lifeboat, and the boat towed to Ladram Bay. They were put ashore and passed to Beer Coastguard – who also attended the scene.

Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to assist a number of sailing dinghies in trouble east of Sidmouth, off Weston.
The group of 14 dinghies, with young crew on a sailing camp, had been scattered by a sudden thunder squall and a number capsized.
Two escorting safety boats, and escort Yacht, were able to give immediate assistance to the main group, but the unpredictable winds separated the boats.Sidmouth lifeboat took two youngsters aboard from their dinghy and returned them to Sidmouth.The Dinghy was towed back later.
The remaining youngsters made their way to Weston beach and were ferried in the safety boats and lifeboat back to Sidmouth.
The remaining dinghies were towed back by the safety boats.
Beer Coastguard team and Lyme Regis lifeboat were in attendance.

21:15 The casualty was taken safely ashore and handed over to Exmouth Coastguard team on the beach.
Portland Coastguard Rescue helicopter also arrived on scene, but not required to carry the casualty to hospital.

Following a 999 call Sidmouth Lifeboat was launched to Medivac a male casualty with a suspected broken ankle from the cliff path at Littlecombe Shoot. East of Sidmouth.19:20 Pride of Sidmouth arrived on scene. 2 crewmen put ashore with first aid kit, Crew applied inflatable splint and administered oxygen to the casualty and prepared him for helicopter evacuation.

20:07 Royal Navy Rescue Helicopter 193 from RNAS Culdrose arrived on scene.

20:38 Casualty winched aboard on stretcher and flown to Exeter Hospital.

20:55 Lifeboat stood down and returned to station.

During a training exercise a member of the public discovered two abandoned piles of clothing on the beach and reported this to the crew of Sidmouth Lifeboat. One crew member was put ashore to investigate the clothing and found that it belonged to residents of a nearby hotel. Dive boat had tangled a line in it’s propeller and had an injured diver onboard. 2 Divers were still in the water at the time. Divers then cleared the fouled propeller and “Blue Turtle” was escorted back to port.

A routine training session for Sidmouth Lifeboat was diverted by Portland Coastguard to help
search for a lost dog last Sunday morning.
Members of Beer Coastguard team Naomi Truell, Aiden Winder and Alan Phillips had been tasked to search for the missing black and white collie dog, named Jasper, on the cliffs and beach between Beer head and Branscombe. Sidmouth Lifeboat- Pride of Sidmouth searched the coastline, and using binoculars crewman Mike Vittles located the dog in a small cave beneath Beer head.The dog made off along the beach and crewman Grant Smith was put ashore to catch the dog and hand him over to members of the coastguard team. The dog was returned to the owners on holiday at Beer Head Caravan Park

ILB was then joined by Exmouth ILB and searched inshore area around Budleigh Salterton. Both ILB’s then joined by Exmouth Lifeboat and proceeded to Dawlish Warren to commence a search at Dawlish. All Lifeboats were then informed that the woman had been located safe & well. ILB then returned to station.

ILB launched to search for a missing elderly gentleman between Salcombe Mouth and Ladram Bay. ILB performed a close in shore search from Sidmouth to Ladram Bay, with nothing found. ILB then launched a white illuminating flare at Ladram Bay and commenced a visual search of the area, nothing found. ILB then commenced the return leg of the inshore search and shouting was heard from the top of High Peak. ILB crew determined location of the gentleman and guided Coastguards to the scene. Coastguard teams then recovered the Gentleman to the top of the cliffs, from where he was taken by Coastguard helicopter to hospital. ILB returned to station at 05:30.

004-04 17/03/2004 14:20 Search / Rescue Weston Mouth ILB tasked to proceed to a point midway between Littlecombe Shoot & Weston Mouth after a report of a pile of clothes on the beach. After locating the clothes a crew member was put ashore to search the beach. Coastguard helicopter Whiskey Bravo then spotted a body 200m east of the clothes. A second crew member was then put ashore to assist recovering the body to the beach. Crew remained on scene until SOC officers arrived. ILB returned to station at 18:30.

001-03 29/03/2003 17:36 Rescue Branscombe ILB paged after a report of a dingy drifting off Branscombe. ILB was stood down before launch after a report from the Coastguard that the dingy was empty and have been bought ashore by a local fisherman.
002-03 05/04/2003 15:45 Rescue Smallstones Point ILB launched to assist a small fishing vessel taking in water off of Smallstones Point. ILB arrived on scene with Coastguard Helicopter Whisky Bravo and transferred one crew member to the vessel and assisted with pumping. Vessel then started making its way back Exmouth with the ILB in attendance. The vessel was then taken under tow due to her slow speed and towed into Exmouth Marina. ILB then returned to station at 18:10
003-03 17/06/2003 14:46 Rescue Ladram Bay ILB launched to assist a capsized kayak off of Ladram Bay. ILB arrived on scene where the casualty had been recovered onto a nearby boat. The ILB crew assessed the casualty and transferred him to a waiting ambulance at Ladram Bay. Casualty was suffering from the effects of the cold and returned home after being given a medical check by the Ambulance crew. ILB returned to station at 15:20. Exmouth ILB also attended.
004-03 12/07/2003 16:23 Search Ladram Bay ILB launched to search for 5 people reported cut off by the tide East of Ladram Bay. ILB performed a close in search from Lade Foot to Ladram Bay with nothing being found. ILB then performed a return search to Jacobs Ladder Beach. Nothing was found and ILB stood down at 17:07
005-03 03/08/2003 12:10 First Aid Boathouse Lifeboat crew gave first aid assistance to a 12 year old boy who had been hit on the head by a stone, opposite the boathouse. The wound was treated and the family advised to have a full check up at hospital as soon as possible.
006-03 28/08/2003 19:55 Search Sidmouth Beach ILB launched in service to investigate an upturned boat off of Clifton Beach. ILB searched the area for persons in the water but nothing was found.

001-02 12/01/2002 04:29 Standby River Sid ILB launched in service following a report of person threatening to jump off of bridge at Sid Park Road. ILB stationed 200m South of Mouth of River Sid, in case the person was carried out to sea. ILB stood down at 05:05 after person was apprehended by the police.
002-02 19/01/2002 21:01 Search Sidmouth ILB launched to investigate a report of a red flare sighted off of Sidmouth. ILB searched from the Lifeboat Station to Tortoiseshell Rock. A white parachute flare was launched and a visual search commenced. Nothing was found and so a parallel track search was performed from the Lifeboat Station to Tortoiseshell Rock. Again nothing was found. It was subsequently discovered that children had launched the red flare from Connaught Gardens. ILB returned to station at 21:53.
003-02 27/03/2002 16:46 Rescue Sidmouth to Western Mouth ILB launched in service, after a report from a member of the public that seven people were about to be cut off by the incoming tide. The ILB proceeded to the position, where the people had managed to reach safety after realizing their situation. ILB was then stood down and returned to station.
004-02 07/04/2002 10:41 Rescue Sidmouth ILB launched after a report of a swimmer in difficulty off of the Rock Islands, South of Clifton Beach. ILB proceeded to the scene and recovered one casualty who was in difficulty. The casualty was given first aid by the Lifeboat crew for minor injuries received on rocks and for cold. The casualty was then taken to the ILB recovery site at Clifton Beach where the casualty was transferred to an ambulance.
005-02 08/04/2002 19:24 Search / Rescue Seaton Hole ILB launched to assist Coastguard teams searching for a missing person between Beer Beach and Seaton Hole. ILB arrived on scene and commenced an inshore search from Beer to Seaton. The casualty was then located by the Coastguard team and the Coastguard helicopter was called the scene to winch the casualty out and transfer to the awaiting ambulance at Beer Football pitch. ILB then transferred the Coastguard team from the scene to Beer Beach. ILB then returned to station.
006-02 18/05/2002 13:15 Rescue River Axe ILB launched to assist a sinking speed boat close to the mouth of the River Axe. ILB was proceeding to the incident scene and was subsequently stood down by Portland Coastguard.
007-02 03/06/2002 13:36 Rescue Sidmouth ILB launched after a report of a missing sailing dinghy from Sidmouth Sailing Club. ILB located the casualty approx. 1 mile SSE of the River Sid, with 2 persons in the water hanging on to the upturned dinghy. The ILB crew recovered the persons from the water and commenced towing the dinghy back to the Sidmouth Sailing Club. The ILB then passed the tow to a safety boat and returned the casualties to shore. ILB returned to station at 14:10
008-02 06/06/2002 19:10 Rescue Jacobs Ladder ILB launched after a report of a person in the water off of Jacobs Ladder Beach. ILB located the casualty at the western end of the beach and recovered the casualty to the ILB after the casualty had refused winching aboard Coastguard helicopter Whiskey Bravo. ILB returned to the Lifeboat Station with casualty at 19:45.
009-02 12/06/2002 19:09 Rescue Salcome Hill ILB launched in service after a report from Portland Coastguard that 3 persons had fallen off of the cliff at Salcome Hill. ILB proceeded to the scene where 2 persons were spotted on the beach at the foot of the cliff. 2 crew were then sent ashore to attend and ILB stood off. ILB was then directed by the Devon & Cornwall Police Helicopter, to the location of the third person, who was spotted in the water at this time. ILB recovered this person and then proceeded back to Clifton Beach, where it was recovered, and the casualty transferred to an ambulance. ILB was then re-launched and proceeded back to the incident scene, where the second person was taken aboard the ILB, for transfer back to land. The Coastguard Helicopter was also in attendance at this time and it was decided to winch the third person aboard the helicopter for transfer to land. ILB stood by during the winching operation and then proceeded to Clifton Beach for recovery and transfer of the person aboard to an ambulance. ILB returned to station at 20:20
010-02 19/06/2002 13:58 Search Sidmouth ILB launched in service after a report of a small yellow inflatable dinghy approximately 100 yards offshore. ILB proceeded to the location of the Sidmouth Sewer Buoy, where it was confirmed from the shore that this was the object reported. ILB then stood down.
011-02 20/06/2002 16:40 Rescue Sidmouth ILB launched to investigate a report of a swimmer possibly in difficulties approx. 100 yards off the Kingswood Hotel, Sidmouth. ILB started a search to the east and soon located the swimmer who was not in difficulty. ILB remained with the swimmer while it was confirmed with the first informant that this was the person seen in difficulty. ILB was then returning to station when requested to check another swimmer between the rock islands. The swimmer was confirmed as the same swimmer spoken to previously again he was in no difficulty.
012-02 07/07/2002 13:55 Rescue Ladram Bay ILB tasked while on training exercise, to assist a broken down power boat, 1 mile east of Ladram Bay. ILB arrived on scene and took vessel under tow towards Exmouth. ILB then handed tow over to Exmouth Lifeboat. ILB then released by Portland Coastguard.
013-02 10/07/2002 19:00 Rescue / Standby Jacobs Ladder ILB paged after report of an attempted suicide at Jacobs Ladder. ILB crew were held by the Coastguard initially and then requested to launch and standby out of sight. Casualty was then persuaded to come down from the cliffs by a Police Negotiator.
014-02 19/07/2002 21:23 Search / Rescue Salcome Hill ILB launched in service to a suspected suicide attempt. ILB carried out an inshore search between the River Sid and Salcome Mouth. ILB then asked to standby at the mouth of the River SId. Casualty was then persuaded to come down from the cliffs by a Police Negotiator.
015-02 21/07/2002 20:12 Search Salcome Hill ILB launched in service after a report of a suspected suicide at Salcome Hill. ILB proceeded to the scene and carried out an inshore search at the base of the cliffs. An object was spotted at the base of the cliffs and a Cliff Rescue team called to investigate. The Cliff Rescue team searched the base of the cliffs, with only a floral tribute to 3 casualties who were recovered from the location earlier in the year. ILB then stood down.
016-02 04/08/2002 15:42 Search Salcome Hill ILB launched in service after a report of a cliff fall and persons heard shouting, East of the River Sid. ILB searched the area and nothing was found. ILB then stood down.
017-02 06/08/2002 12:59 Standby High Peak to Salcome Hill ILB launched in service after a report of a person on High Peak threatening to commit suicide. ILB performed a slow search from High Peak to Ladram Bay. Following more information from the Police, ILB was relocated to the mouth of the River Sid. ILB was then stood down at 14:12
018-02 06/08/2002 17:20 Search Ladram Bay ILB launched in service after a report of an inflatable dinghy with 2 children on board, approximately 300m south of Ladram Bay. ILB proceeded to the scene and commenced an inshore search of the area. Sidmouth 2 was also launched and proceeded to the scene where they rendezvoused with the Exmouth Inshore Lifeboat. The three lifeboats then performed a thorough search of the area from Chit Rock to Otterton Ledge. ILB’s released from the search at 19:30.
019-02 12/08/2002 17:10 Rescue Sidmouth ILB launched in service to investigate an inflatable blowing away from the shore at Sidmouth Beach. ILB located an inflatable fish, approximately 1 mile south of the Lifeboat Station and recovered if from the water. No persons were found in distress. ILB returned to station at 17:35, where the inflatable fish was reunited with it’s owners.
020-02 15/08/2002 18:39 Rescue Sidmouth ILB launched in service after a report of an upturned boat off of the Royal York Hotel. A small dinghy was recovered 3/4 of a mile South of Sidmouth and returned to it’s owner.
021-02 15/08/2002 20:39 Search Sidmouth to Lyme Regis ILB launched in service after a report of a missing walker between Sidmouth and Lyme Regis. ILB searched as far as Branscombe Mouth when the person was located a Rousden Caravan Park. ILB the returned to Station.
022-02 27/08/2002 17:10 Rescue Sidmouth ILB launched in service after a report of an inflatable boat being blown out to sea. ILB was informed by the lifeguard at Clifton beach that the inflatable boat that had been reported was in fact the sewer buoy. ILB crew informed Portland Coastguard and were then stood down.
023-02 28/08/2002 18:30 Search Beer ILB launched in service after a report of a windsurfer in difficulties between Beer and Seaton. ILB proceeded to Beer Head and made contact with 2 yachts in the area, Consultation with the yacht revealed that they had not seen anyone in difficulty and were not in difficulty them selves. Beer Coastguards spoke the the first informant who had mistaken the yacht for a windsurfer. ILB was then stood down returned to station.
024-02 06/09/2002 20:37 Search Salcome Mouth ILB launched in service to investigate a fire between Sidmouth and Salcome Mouth. The remains of a fire were found on the beach, but no persons in the area. The ILB was then re – tasked by Portland coastguard to investigate a flashing light between Ladram Bay and Smallstones Point. ILB carried out an inshore search at the location, but nothing was found. ILB then returned to station at 21:33
025-02 08/09/2002 19:52 Search Branscombe ILB launched in service following a report of a windsurfer in difficulties off of Branscombe Mouth. ILB proceeded to the location where it was found that the navigation lights of a moored tanker were in direct line of sight with a flag marker buoy. This created the appearance of a windsurfer in difficulty. ILB the stood down.
026-02 22/12/2002 11:08 Rescue River Axe ILB launched in service, after a report of a capsized kayak, 1/4 of a mile south of the River Axe. ILB proceeded to the scene, where the casualty had been recovered from the water by the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter ” Whiskey Bravo”, and returned to shore. ILB then performed a Box Search and located the casualtie’s kayak, which was then returned to Beer Beach. ILB returned to station at 12:55.

002-01 18/02/01 01:55 Search Sidmouth ILB launched to search for vessel in distress after a report of a red flare 5 nautical miles off Sidmouth. ILB R/V with Exmouth Lifeboat.  ILB commenced shoreline search from Clifton Beach westward. Performed a Parallel Track Search with Exmouth Lifeboat. Nothing found & ILB stood down at 04:35.
003-01 07/05/01 16:22 Rescue Sidmouth ILB launched to rescue 2 persons cut off by tide on large rock island off Sidmouth Beach. Casualties were recovered and ILB returned to station at 16:33. ILB was refueled and ready for service by 17:06.
004-01 21/05/01 22:28 Search / Rescue Branscombe ILB launched to rescue 3 persons who had gone toward Sherbourne Rocks, overtaken by darkness and had no torches. ILB was guided to bonfire where casualties had been by Beer Coastguard, and one crewman was put ashore. ILB proceeded to search eastward and located the 3 persons. They were retrieved from the rocks and returned to their main group. ILB returned to station.
005-01 20/06/01 19:05 Search Seaton Bay ILB launched to search for possible missing wind surfer, after discovery of a sail board washed up at Kings Isle Rock.  ILB performed parallel track search from Beer Head to River Axe.   19:45 Sidmouth 2 launched and joined Sidmouth Rescue at 20:05, with both lifeboats performing a return leg parallel track search, back to Beer Head.  ILB & Sidmouth 2 returned to station at 21:15
006-01 22/06/01 09:34 Rescue Sidmouth Sidmouth 2 launched after a report of a sinking dinghy, with 4 persons onboard, 1/2 a mile south of Sidmouth Beach.  Sidmouth 2 arrived on scene and found the dinghy not to be in difficulty.  Sidmouth 2 then returned to station at 09:55.
007-01 23/06/01 15:45 Search Beer Head ILB launched after report of a missing vessel off Beer Head.  ILB proceeded to Beer Head, when small vessel matching description given was sighted off Western Ebb.  Vessel checked over, all occupants found to be safe and well.  ILB returned to station.
008-01 25/06/01 13:57 Search / Rescue Sidmouth ILB launched to search for possible trapped persons after a report of a large cliff fall between Sidmouth and Salcome Regis.  One Crewman placed on shore to check cliff fall for possible casualties.  No casualties or persons trapped.  ILB returned to station at 15:15.  Further small cliff falls during the afternoon, but ILB not called out.
009-01 30/06/01 12:57 Rescue Sidmouth ILB paged after a report of small boat with 3 persons & 1 dog sinking 75 meters south of the River Sid. All persons and dog managed to swim ashore prior to lifeboat launch and crew stood down.

Salcome Mouth ILB launched to investigate a report of 4 green drums at Salcome Mouth. Sidmouth 2 launched and discovered 4 green lobster pots. Sidmouth 2 returned to station at 17:12.
011-01 22/07/01 15:47 Search Ladram Bay ILB launched to assist  two adults and a child who were suspected to be cut off by the tide. ILB proceeded to Ladram Bay and searched the coastline towards the mouth of the river Otter where the casualties were located. They were not any any immediate danger and were told to proceed to Ladram Bay on foot. ILB escorted them and returned to station at 16:35.
012-01 27/07/01 13:55 Rescue Sidmouth ILB launched after a report of of a potential Suicide Attempt 100 meters east of the River Sid. ILB located the casualty and stood off whilst Helicopter Whiskey Bravo winched the man off the cliff and transported him to Torbay hospital. ILB returned to station at 14:33.
013-01 28/07/01 18:05 Search Sidmouth ILB launched to search from Salcombe Mouth to Chit Rocks for a missing person after reports of items found on the beach which had been there for 3 hours. 18:30 there person was located safe and well and ILB returned to station at 18:46.
014-01 29/07/01 09:44 Rescue Branscombe ILB launched to go to the assistance of a lady with a broken leg on the coastal path west of Branscombe. Casualty was located at Littlecombe Shoot where the crew administered first aid and then transported the casualty to Branscombe Beach to a waiting ambulance. ILB stood down and returned to station at 11:55.
015-01 31/07/01 17:05 Rescue Western Mouth ILB launched called to person suffering from suspected heat exhaustion. Casualty had rested for a short time and was then taken back to Sidmouth and care handed over to ambulance crew.
016-01 07/08/01 19:20 Search Jacobs Ladder ILB launched by Police request to search for possible trapped persons after cliff fall at Jacobs Ladder Beach. 1 crewmember placed ashore to search the area. No casualties found. ILB returned to station at 20:20
017-01 04/09/01 17:55 Rescue River Axe ILB launched to assist a broken down speed boat, with 2 occupants, reported 1/2 mile south Beer Head. ILB located speedboat 3/4 mile south of River Axe and took speed boat under tow to the River Axe, having ascertained that the speed boat had run out of fuel. The lifeboat was met by a local fisherman who bought fuel out to the speed boat and was then refueled and escorted to the slipway in River Axe by the lifeboat. ILB returned to station at 19:20.
018-01 18/09/01 1834 Search Sidmouth ILB launched to search for missing person. ILB proceeded to Ladram Bay and searched towards Beer Head. Sidmouth 2 launched at 19:02 and rendezvoused with Sidmouth Herald. One crewman was transferred to Sidmouth 2 and both lifeboats searched towards Beer Head. Missing person was then located safe and well at home at 19:49. Sidmouth 2 returned to station at dusk and Sidmouth Herald returned to station a short time later.
019-01 28/10/01 11:03 Search Sidmouth Sidmouth 2 launched to investigate a large rock fall east of Sidmouth. The rock fall was searched and no persons were found. Sidmouth 2 returned to station at 11:55.
020-01 28/10/01 10:50 Search Ladram Bay ILB tasked by Portland Coastguard while on exercise to search for a missing person between Otterton Point and Ladram Bay. An inshore search was carried out and nothing was found. ILB stood down at 11:45.
021-01 28/10/01 11:54 Warning High Peak ILB returning from incident No 020-0, when the crew spotted 2 persons in danger of being cut off by rising tide. 1 crew member swam ashore and warned them of the rising tide. The 2 people then made their way back to Jacobs Ladder beach, with the ILB following. ILB returned to station at 12:11
022-01 30/11/01 21:47 Rescue Sidmouth ILB crew were paged, after a possible suicide attempt on the cliffs East of the River Sid. The ILB crew were stood down before launch, as the Police had managed to talk the person out of their proposed action.

003/00 23/06/00 23:30 Rescue Salcome Mouth ILB launched to collect person from Salcome Mouth.  Person recovered into ILB and bought back to Clifton Beach.  Ambulance crew then attended.

007/00 01/08/00 19:29 Search Sidmouth ILB launched after report of person being washed off end of the slipway at Port Royal.  ILB searched from River Sid to Salcome Mouth and then on to Chit Rocks and then Chapman Rocks.  21:08 person was found safe & well.  ILB returned to station.
