Sidmouth Independent Beach Lifeguards Launch Full-Time Summer Patrols
From this Saturday 12th July, Sidmouth Independent Beach Lifeguards will begin full-time patrols, operating seven days a week from 10am to 6pm until 7th September. The team will provide professional lifeguard cover, rescue services, first aid, prevention, education, and advanced medical support where required to beach goers in Sidmouth.
Trained to a high level of maritime casualty care, the lifeguards are equipped to administer oxygen, Entonox, and defibrillation, and work closely with Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat, as well as specialist teams including Devon Air Ambulance critical care paramedics and the SWAST Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).
Already this season, lifeguards have completed 20 patrol days, assisting in 16 rescues, numerous first aid cases, and one major off-duty rescue. They’ve also delivered vital beach and water safety education to over 2,500 students across 20 local schools, reinforcing their commitment to prevention and community safety.
The team continues to collaborate with local organisations such as the Devon Wildlife Trust, recently supporting a marine mammal incident.
Visitors are encouraged to approach lifeguards for assistance, safety advice, or just a friendly chat. Beach goers are advised to always follow beach signage, heed lifeguard guidance, and remember to swim between the red and yellow flags. It is also advised to avoid hazards such as the Rock Islands, groynes, and the unstable cliffs at East Beach.
Sidmouth Independent Lifeguards and Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat wish everyone a safe and happy summer on the beach.
