Sidmouth Lifeboat Assists Trawler After Steering Gear Obstructed by Large Log

Date: 14.08.25

Time Paged: 10:52

Callout #: 14

Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat was tasked to assist a trawler approximately two miles south of Sidmouth, after the vessel became disabled while recovering its gear. During the operation, a large log had become lodged against the trawler’s steering gear and propellers, leaving the vessel drifting.

On arrival, Sidmouth Lifeboat attached a tow line to the log and, working together with the trawler’s crew, successfully managed to pull it clear. Exmouth All-Weather Lifeboat also arrived on scene to provide additional support if required.

With the obstruction removed and the trawler able to continue under its own power, both lifeboats were stood down at 11:51.
